DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) is an email validation system used to certify that an email message has been sent by an authorized individual or server. A digital signature is attached to the email’s header using a private cryptographic key. When the email is received, a public key that’s available in the global DNS database is used to validate who actually sent it and if the content has been edited in any way. The principal job of DKIM is to block the widespread scam and spam emails, as it makes it impossible to fake an email address. If an email is sent from an email address claiming to belong to your bank, for example, but the signature doesn’t match, you will either not get the email message at all, or you will get it with a warning alert that most likely it’s not genuine. It depends on email service providers what exactly will happen with an email which fails to pass the signature examination. DKIM will also give you an additional safety layer when you communicate with your business partners, for instance, since they can see for themselves that all the messages that you exchange are legitimate and have not been tampered with on their way.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Shared Hosting

The DomainKeys Identified Mail option is activated by default for all domain names that are hosted in a shared hosting account on our cloud platform, so you will not need to do anything on your end to turn it on. The sole requirement is that the particular domain should be hosted in an account on our platform using our NS and MX resource records, so that the emails will go through our mail servers. The private cryptographic key will be generated on the server and the TXT resource record, which contains the public key, will be published to the DNS system automatically, so you won’t have to do anything manually on your end in order to activate this functionality. The DKIM validation system will enable you to send out trustworthy e-mails, so if you are sending offers or a newsletter to clients, for example, your email messages will always reach their target audience, whereas unsolicited third parties will not be able to forge your email addresses.

DomainKeys Identified Mail in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All needed DKIM records will be created automatically by our cloud platform when you add a domain name as hosted in a semi-dedicated server account, so if you decide to buy a semi-dedicated hosting package, you will not need to set up anything to be able to use the email authentication system. The domain name should use our name servers so that its DNS resource records can be managed by our company and as long as this prerequisite is satisfied, a private key will be created on our email servers and a public key will be published to the DNS system by a special TXT resource record. All email addresses that you create with the domain will be protected by DomainKeys Identified Mail, which will make it impossible for third parties to forge any email address. Both you and your associates or clients can take advantage of this functionality, since it will guarantee a higher level of security for your online communication.
